Web-based Education Resource Center

Educational resources in your community, for your community, without government funding or involvement

About WebERC

WebERC is a database in the process of being compiled to provide families with searchable access to local, in-person educational resources such as classes, learning pods, and extracurricular activities. These resources exist entirely outside of the public school system and do not receive government funding. They are primarily targeted to homeschool students but many are available as supplementary activities to students enrolled in a private, public, or charter school.

In 2023 while seeking to build her music studio client base, the founder spent many hours posting and looking through over a dozen Facebook groups, where she noticed that there were often homeschool resources posted in one group that were needed by someone in a different group. She realized what a benefit it would be to have all of these resources compiled in one place and the idea for WebERC was born.

About the Founder

Karen Birk is a devoted wife, mother of four, and music teacher. As a young adult, she became fluent in and taught the Cebuano language, a Filipino dialect. During this time she discovered her love for teaching, and she taught both Cebuano and English as a Second Language for over a decade, both in-person and online. In the summer of 2021, she began teaching music classes to young students when she recognized the inadequacy of her own son's music education during the government-mandated school shutdowns and distance learning. That fall, she helped to launch a K-5 learning pod out of her home in Washington County, Oregon. During the ensuing years, she has taught music classes for the pod students, other homeschool students, and preschool-age children in the community. Karen holds a BS in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Social Work and a minor in Music from Utah Valley University. She is currently furthering her education with a BS in Applied Business Management through BYU Pathway Worldwide, an online program.
